Thanked: 0And another one, from the Netherlands
Hello sirs (I assume),
I have been lurking around the forum for a while, but did not get to properly introducing myself.
A few months ago I learned about the existence of straight shaving and I have been very intrigued since. Beginning December I was given an Opinel knife. In my searches I learned a bit about sharpening this and other outdoor knives. Interested as I was in that, I wondered whether more communities would be interested in sharp object. This thought led me to search for sharpening razors on youtube and eventually to here. I absolutely loved the video's on forging razors (not something i will be doing). I never guessed there was so much to learn about shaving. The craftmanship to make the razors, the durability and the skill involved in straight shaving have led me to order a new razor and some accompanying gear. Within a week's time i hope to be in business.
Other interests I have are rock climbing and sailing. I still wonder about shaving while travelling. A cartridge shaver seems a bit more practical, especially while sailing. Furthermore I like to enjoy coffee, preferably single estate coffee's brewed to a double espresso.
Thanks to all of you for being a great resource and a great community.

Thanked: 983Well I reckon that you've found the right place here. And not only for your new found razor interest, but also for talking about rock climbing (Carl is into Bouldering), sailing (Tomi is in the Finnish Navy) and coffee (There's a thread running for all the coffee connissuoers (sp?) here).
Welcome to the forum...You don't smoke a pipe by any chance do you?

Thanked: 0I performed my first partial shave without drawing blood! In all the excitement I initially forgot to strop.
The first stroke was the most awkward, but i got quickly accustomed to putting such a sharp object near my face. After my dominant side cheek I did the other side with opposite hand, which went pretty decent. Some throat parts, less comfortable, and the upper lip. The razor did feel a bit grabby, so I wonder what a properly honed edge feels like!
Can't wait to grow some more hair
