Default New from Northern Ontario, Canada

    Hey,

I figured after 8 years of butchering my face everyday- I stop it. And start the day being more badass.

It said to introduce myself after registering- so here I am. My name is Ian, I'm 25, I'm active-duty Infantry, and I would appreciate learning how to properly use a straight razor.

    Thanks for the space,
    Ian

Hey Ian, welcome. I'm brand new too. I got my first straight razor today. It wasn't as easy as I thought so like they say around here the learning curve is pretty steep. Good Luck.

Welcome! You have definitely come to the right place.

There is a TON of information here, not to mention lots of folks who are happy to help you along the way. So when you have questions, ask away.

For starters, if you have not yet done so, check out these two links:

Beginner's guide to straight razor shaving - Straight Razor Place Wiki

First straight razor shave - Straight Razor Place Wiki

Ian - have you bought your first razor yet? If not, make sure you buy it from a reputable vendor who professionally hones it to a "shave-ready" state. The edge on new razors from the factory are not very good and will give you uncomfortable results.

If you have bought it already (and this goes for skullz too!) and it was not pro honed, the first thing you should do is get it honed properly. Don't make the mistake I did and try to shave for months and months on a factory edge. It can be a miserable experience! Check out the classifieds Member Services - Straight Razor Place Classifieds for members who offer professional honing services.

    Best of luck!

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Perfect - you're good to go then!

Beautiful part of the world though. My family has a cabin in the middle of nowhere not too far from Kenora. I miss spending time in a canoe on the Shield.

Welcome Ian. Good to see other Canadians on here. I am new myself. I learned a lot from Lynn's videos on utube. He covers a wide variety of topics, a great place to start. Good Luck.

Welcome from a fellow Canadian. You've come to the right place to learn the art of the straight shave. Lots of info for you to sift through
