    Default Kyle from Ontario

Hello, I am Kyle, and I am from southern Ontario, Canada. I am 23 and have been into more vintage things for quite some time now. M*A*S*H nerd as well. What got me so interested, or obsessed as my girlfriend will tell you, in straight razor shaving was a video on Birchbox men's youtube channel about the four steps to the perfect shave that I came across. Since then, I have researched like a madman and am now eagerly awaiting my blade to come in the mail, which I purchased from the classifieds here on SRP. Thankfully, I found the article about avoiding the "gold dollar" ebay razors and instead have chosen a Jahre Garantie Hyane 3/8 blade. If there is something shorter that I should be calling this, let me know!
As mentioned before, I am keenly interested in anything that my great grandfather may have used and prefer to use products that have been around for a long time. I currently use Proraso shave cream, Proraso pre-shave cream, as well as Cromwell and Cruthers shave oil. I also sport a moustache, hopefully I can find a thread all about moustache wax and what everyone's favourites are! I am currently awaiting my tin of Mr. Natty's Moustache Twizzle Wax.

    I've probably rambled on enough!

Wow! teeny 3/8. You'll learn finesse very early.
Congrats & Welcome to the Place.

    Welcome!

Please post pics of that razor! Sounds like a slender beauty.

Welcome kwlfca!! I know the antique stores by Niagra on the lake produce some nice vintage blades. Sometimes you can get lucky and find some great straights and strops.

I'll post pics when it comes in, I bought it from SRP member airportcopper, it should be here by the end of the month.
My logic was that the 3/8 would be a bit easier to maneuver on my face, especially for a beginner. I also read somewhere that it's inadvisable to learn on anything more than a 5\8 blade. I'm a thin person so it makes sense to me...in theory anyway! I'll have to check out some antique shops eventually.

Keeping a 3/8 flat on a strop or hone takes a bit more attention as does shaving angle. They are more of a trimmer size but see how you go.
