New lather bowl. Loving it.
Hey, guys. Picked this up at Walmart tonight for $2.88.
It's made by Pfaltzgraff, and it's size and shape make it great for soaking a brush. The brush sits still in it and does not slide down into the bowl.
It's also sized and shaped to fit my hand, and I can build lather until the bowl is literally full, and the shape keeps the lather in the bowl where it belongs, not flowing over the sides.
Absolutely love it.

I have a similar bowl I picked up from wally world also. Its in a blue ceramic. Does a decent job especially for the $1 clearance price it was bought for. They seem to hold heat pretty well too. Still waiting to buy a dirty bird scuttle to take its place. Enjoy your bowl.

I have a few scuttles that I paid dearly for, but my favorite bowl to use is a $2 candy bowl that is goblet shaped. It also came from Wally World.

Thanked: 9I have a similar bowl from Wally also. The make a slightly larger soup bowl that this one sits in nicely. A makeshift scuttle combination.

Delighted to see all the different choices people are making in place of expensive scuttles. I am a big fan of Goodwill's ragtag collection of bowls and mugs in wood, glass and ceramic because I get to play around with different sizes and shapes and keep visual boredom at bay in the bathroom (staring at your own face every morning can become daunting after a while). I do, here and there, modify the interiors with a quick set epoxy pattern to enhance lather build up.
I guess I have the male equivalent of acquisition of objects (women and their shoe collections). But it is fun to have the goods to vary not only what razor to use each day, but also what brush, what soap/cream and what container for your daily lather (unless you do face lathering)."The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."

Thanks for the replies, guys.
Razorfeld, I know what you mean. If people want to buy scuttles, bowls, etc., from artisan makers, I think that's great. The Artisan is someone we want around, and thriving, IMO.
But I don't really need a scuttle, or a purpose made bowl. There is so much variety in bowls, cups, mugs, containers of all kinds out there, that if I keep my eyes open, I can find all kinds of really useful and great looking additions to my den, at a price my wallet (and my wife) likes.

I still use the van det Hagen mug fit on top of a bigger coffee mug as a make shift scuttle. Someday I want to buy a scuttle but this way in in no hurry and can get one I really like.

I still have my VDH bowl, but it's sitting on the counter with a puck of Deluxe in it. I keep it there for times when I just need to grab and go with a shave. I will load a brush, face lather and do one or two passes and I'm out the door.
I like to bowl lather when I'm not pressed for time, so I need a second bowl for that. This one works perfect for that.Mike

I have the exact same bowl from Wal-Mart and for under $5 it is great. Only thing better would be ridges in the bowl to help with lathering.
Funny, ever since I got into wet shaving I've been attracted to the pottery sections of every store, even Wal-Mart.
