Thanked: 77Personally I think just about any oil work as long as it doesn't rot or irritate the skin.

Rem Oil, Ballistol, or good old 3 in 1 oil. All will work fine.

I use 3M Silicone spray a general use product for preventative maintenance, protection and lubrication. It lubricates moving parts, without becoming resinous and can be used over a wide temperature range thereby, providing long lasting protection against moisture and corrosion. 3M silicone spray is neutral towards paints, plastic, rubber, foamed materials, wood and fabrics.

Thanked: 0Gun oil may contain additives that can be agressive. Find some Tsubaki Oil from Amazon. Chefs use it to prserve their steel knives that touches food.

Thanked: 498I use a type of gun oil on all my razors Tuf-Glide
I like it over other lubricants because it stays put, meaning it wont migrate like some oils (run off the blade via gravity)
Even if you wipe the majority off the blade there will still be remnants of Tuf-Glide on the blade protecting it.
I even dig the smell of it.

Thanked: 369Is it a bangin' razor??
I'd stick with mineral oil or vaseline. The stuff in gun oil, even in miniscule amounts, might irritate your skin.

For long term i use SRD razor oil and a coat of R. I. G. then wrap in wax paper . This has worked for me for a long time. I know it worked for over 20 years on a couple of blades. Not the SRD oil but the R I G. On some blades that has a mirror finish oil will some times puddle up and leave some areas exposed. The R I G will coat evenly and stay for a very long time. When i'm ready to use the razor i just clean the oil or grease off it with tissue paper strop and shave.

Funny how many of us use our gun oils. You can add me to that group of guys. Still use the Remington oil on my straights even though I don't use it on my weapons anymore.
Applying a little to some TP will do 5 straights easy.David
