Thread: Thiers-Issard razors are they pretty good

Does anyone own a Thiers-Issards Razor, or know anything about them I have been checking them out and I am thinking of purchasing one or two any suggestions or commenTs

I have two. One is vintage-a frameback. It is a superb razor. My second TI is newly manufactured. It is a good razor.

The newer TIs have a reputation for being made of hard steal that is a bit harder to sharpen but hold an edge well. Also, TIs tend to be a little more expensive than their competitors like Dovo and Boker.

It might be helpful to know what you are looking at... a vintage razor or a new manufacture. The condition of the individual razor is an important consideration.

They are good razors. I have yet to use a TI that I really like, but I think it just my me.

It is a new offering the 1937 Coiffeur, and a Le Dandy, and a Red Stamina Bison all 6/8 full hollow, also I have been looking a another Ralf Aust 6/8, but I have not seen a vintage ones of the Thiers-Issards yet

I like TI. I've had vintage, and new (7- 8 years ago new) maybe a dozen all told, and never a bad one in the bunch. One of my favorite makers actually.

I have had 5 in total and use 2 regularly. I do enjoy the new production as well as vintage. I find they take a bit more time to hone. They hold an edge extremely well. Once the edge is where you want they are very smooth shaving razors. They can be a bit unforgiving. Pay attention to the whole edge when using a TI. I find them well built. I have one in horn scales and one in plastic still in my rotation. They are easier to keep rust free in my opinion. I wipe and store all my razors the same and the TIs never have a spot

I have used both new and vintage from most eras. Nice razors. Only niggle I have is sometimes the gold wash was can look a little wonky.

All modern production TI razors seem to have wide bevels. Some also happen to be uneven.

If that doesn't bother you, then go for it.

I have had a few T-I straights. First one had a truly weird grind. It was scary to look at...sold it.

2nd T-I was a 1937 Coiffeur. had warped scales. T-I replaced the razor which worked just fine...until it was stolen

3rd T-I was a Bison. All around good razor. Properly assembled, held an edge quite well, in all a nice bit of goods. Sold it to finance a Jerry Stark Custom (Local rule..want a new razor? Sell one of the existing herd first.)

I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another 1937 or LeDandy. They seem to be a good razor at a fair price. Truth be told though, I think a Boker or Ralf Aust is that much more a better product.

Aust or Revisor are the only two modern production razor brands I can safely recommend.
