Thread: Straight Razor Leather Sheath - Which Is Best?

I'm interested in a straight razor leather sheath for travel and everyday storage in my closet. I like the design with the flap in the photo below. Also like ones that snap closed with buttons, but am wondering if those risk putting too much pressure on the blade. Welcome any thoughts on what holders work best for razors -- especially for travel.

A plastic toothbrush holder, if the razor fits, is best for protection and storage. Long term storage in leather can lead to rust issues.

I have a beautiful seven razor fabric pouch that was made by greatbolo it is the end all & be all of razor rolls.

+ 1 on the toothbrush holder, I had a leather sheath but a toothbrush holder offers more protection.

As long as the snap isn't too tight it should be fine. Might have to work it loose a bit. For long term storage or travel, I use the steel cases that the Dovo's come in with the foam inside.

I have one of these in my travel kit and like it a lot. The maker will customize it for you and does nice work. I like it for travel, but don't use it for long term storage.

I don't have any problems with storing my razor in a leather pouch. It has more to do with the humidity of the environment and the use of or lack of use of a protect-ant such as Ren wax. As a leather worker myself i am in the process of testing one of my leather pouches to see if it contributes to rust. 3 months so far with no problems. YMMV and JMHO.

When I think of leather, whether for razors or firearms, I view them as a temporary home, meaning during a shift at work or at most a few days in the field. I don't believe that leather is a place for long term storage of steel. There are many other materials that store steel much better.

I guess it would depend a lot on the type of metal stored in leather, the way the leather was tanned and the humidity levels of the environment. I have seen some gawd awful verdigris formed on items stored long term in leather. I am like Hirlau in that I have always viewed leather as a temporary home for items.
