Hot water gets poured in the open side and your brush and lather goes in the side with holes in it. The holes are there to allow steam from the water below to travel up and keep your lather nice and warm.

This is a moustache cup. I actually picked up one when I was still sporting the stache, but, alas, shaved it off. Maybe next time I grow it out, I'll keep it longer.

Is that a shaving mug or a coffee cup?

Interesting...... but I would use a regular mug or you can purchase a scuttle. Warm lather really makes the shave more enjoyable.... at least for me.
