Default Trying to pick a scuttle, help

I'm torn between two and was hopeing you guys and gals could help me pick the right one.

    Dirty Bird 1.5 $54 + 15 shipping

SRP $45 + shipping (not sure what it will be)

I like warm lather and since the airline nicely broke my last setup that I can't replace (yes I'm still mad about it)

I often super lather and once I use up some of my soaps I will be playing with gssixguns uberlather recipe. I understand that the SRD one is too small to actually mix in so I would be mixing a seperate bowl and then transfering over..... How well does this work or does the first bowl take most of the heat out of the lather making it a moot point.

Which brings me to the Dirty Bird 1.5. I understand that it is big enough to mix in. How well is the heat retention? will it work well for when I face lather with my CF or the Bomb?

I do not want to nuke the scuttle, sorry but walking from the kitchen to the bathroom with a hot piece of pottery while the 17# cat trys to trip me is not what I consider safe.

Does anyone have any good input that could help me in my decision making process?????

I have the 1.5 DB its just great. Heat retention is superb.
Mix your super lather, uber lather, soap lather, cream lather in it and you will be fine.

I go the SRP day before yesterday. I have had the Moss and the DB. The Moss was better for heat retention than the DB but the SRP is better than the Moss. I use a bowl or my face for lather building. I am of the opinion that if you can build lather in a scuttle it will not keep the lather as warm as one that is not so big. The SRP is bigger than it looks and I wonder if a really small brush like a 18mm will keep as warm as a larger brush would. I have noticed that the bottom of the scuttle is the warmest part so it might not matter.

I like this scuttle it hold a lot of water and keep my lather warm for the whole shave if I preheat by putting in hot tap water before showering.

    Take Care,
    Richard

Errnest, ff you like this http://straightrazorpalace.com/misce...-scuttles.html , you can "test drive" it, and depending on the results, ask my friend, whom you met when you visited, to make you one to your personal specs. If she agrees, it will take some time and prices would have to be worked out among the interested parties but this is another possibility, one that would put you on the driver's (designer's) seat, not to mention, there would not be another one like yours in the world!!!

Before I switched to cold water shaving I liked the tight fit of the SRD or Moss as opposed to a scuttle that is big enough to lather in. Better heat retention with the hot tap water. FWIW, the SRD lather bowl is a treat too. I love the finger loop and the top folding in at the edges. With other lather bowls my lather would rise up and go over the edge. Doesn't happen with their bowl and it is pretty too.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
