    Default New to scuttling

I'm still unsure which scuttle I want to go with I'm between the moss, the srd and the dirty bird brush. There are a lot of scuttle opinions on here, but I was wondering why you use the scuttle that you use. Or if you only have one why did you purchase that one I am a face latherer so I want a brush scuttle, for the reasons Lynn has posted numerous times. Is there anyone who has used all three of these? So far I have never used a scuttle I am going to Lowes in a few minutes to get a self-watering pot so I can see whether or not I like it. I have only shaved cold and even if it is better I still want comfort, because I do this for me not for anyone else nyah!

Funny, I went to Lowes and Home Depot. I found two small pots, one glazed, one unglazed that fit in each other well with enough room for hot water, I save them for back up.... Actually, I have a little potpourri crock pot that heats up nicely, I put an older model SRD scuttle in it, like a double boiler and it works well. I've used GTP G5 Scuttle, and to be honest, I bought based on the opinions of other users. My impressions are, It's too small for my liking, the opening is about 3 1/2 inches or so. I had to buy a small brush because my Rooney was way to big for it. Not quite deep enough either, again, for my liking...

Also, it doesn't hold heat well, and it even has a rubber stopper. My tap gets pretty hot... If you microwave the water, or almost boil it, it will last a tad longer, but if you fill it from the tap, hot as it will go, You have to shave pretty fast. I'd say it cools off in about 5 minutes. It just doesn't hold the heat. If I buy another, it'll probably be Dirty Bird.

FWIW, Georgetown Pottery was very helpful and offered to take it back, and give me a full refund, which is nice, since it was made to order and customized. I kept it, I can't get rid of anything...It's a curse...
I would patronize them again. They have very nice items...

Thanks I was really more interested in the dirty bird for price reasons, but I am also tempted to contact a local potter for shipping reasons.

Have you looked at Robert Becker's scuttles? (ebay seller rbecker13)
I have a medium and a large, and really like both of them for the price.

The medium is probably better for the average person... Even shaving my head I've never had a need to have the large full of lather, and the brush tends to drown in there.

I actually have looked at the beckers, I was thinking more along the lines of a brush scuttle for heat retention reasons, but I am open to others.
My problem is that I would like a nice, warm shave, but have low heat tolerance so I can't go super hot at the get go.
I was also curious about shipping costs of these fragile items.

This is probably a stupid question, but what is a brush scuttle? I have the Robert Becker large scuttle. Is it just a small scuttle?

It is a scuttle made for face latherers where one would keep the lathered brush in to keep warm. It is large enough for the brush, not to lather in though. With a smaller bowl less heat is lost through the top.
