    Default Shaving mug heater?

Has anyone used a coffee warming plate as a shave mug heater? Years ago I had a Coffee warming plate, just a single plate that sat at my desk, plugged into 120V. Since I recently started Wet shaving and began the quest fo rthe perfect shave I thought that maybe heating the mug and foam on one of these would be ideal.
Other than letting your mug sit in a sink of hot water, how do you get/keep your mug warm?

    Default Shaving Mug Heater?

    Hello, Souschefdude:

Yes, I use one daily for my improvised scuttle. Mine was purchased from Bed, Bath and Beyond, and it works quite well.

I fill an old style pewter mug with hot water, place a Sara Bonnyman lather bowl on top of it and set the contraption on the coffee mug warmer. Voila! My lather stays warm throughout the shave.

    Regards,
    Obie

A friend of mine, Robert aka Bladerunner recommended the Hot Pot, available at Target I believe, maybe Wal Mart. A mug should fit it there nicely and it's adjustable, It'll heat better than a mug warmer...I use a small potpourri crock pot with a scuttle in it, like a double boiler. It works well, If not that, I use a DB Scuttle...

I've tried it out. For the warmth it was fine for me.

The hassel was having it wired at counter top. You think of it as a little larger than a coaster. In reality, as you move it to the side for clean up you got this long cord knocking shtuff over, gotta unplug to wipe it down, the cord isn't really designed to wrap around it, so its sloppy doing wipe downs. If you already have one, try it out, but I wouldn't buy one thinking you'll be happy long term.

Maybe opposite of happy. You get teased with the warm lather, but mutter under breath for the extra process. You loose some of the zen of the experience i guess.

Just kind of a sloppy way to work.

A scuttle is more, but get it first and think of the $15 you don't spend on the warmer as a $15 discount on the scuttle.

Numerous scuttles are currently available, take up little space, keep cream warm for 3 passes, and are usually beautifully made. Seems to me that just like our blades, the old ways still work best!

    Default Pewter Shaving Mug

    http://straightrazorpalace.com/membe...having-mug.jpg

Im using this pewter shaving mug that was made for me last week - I have been using this for 2 days and have had the best warm lather shave I have ever had. The boiling water keeps the bowl on top and my brush really warm throughout my 3 shave cycle, I have tried using a soap in the top but threw it away as I found it not as good as the cream . I apply a little Trumpers shave cream on my brush and work up a warm lather with my pre soaked brush - Awesome shave... More views of this mug in my photo album.

In the past, I've started my coffee maker and placed the mug on top of it where the steam escapes. This warms the mug while I shower. Just don't grab the wrong one and try shaving with your morning java.
