The silver one looks neat. YOu think its a shaving mug? If its not it may soon be. Would the soap mess with the silver?
    simpleman,

You're darn tootin'. By all means, clean up that antique with some silver polish and make use of it in your shave den.

This is too cool. Getting to use some family history is what I enjoy most about shaving with straight razors. Congrats on a great family mug. (not your face )

It's the right size for an old-fashioned shaving mug.

    Default silver shaving mug

I've seen those with matching brushes that sat in the brush holder. With the brush they brought decent money. Without the brush -- a nice shaving mug to enjoy.

    Default One more thing---

If you haven't polished that yet, think twice before you do, it's just silver-plate, and polishing it
    a) won't last -- and -- b) removes silver.

It looks like pewter to me, very nice...It is most definitely a shaving mug...if it was silver, it'd be tarnished big time...(unless you cleaned it)
