Thread: 110 CFM Baby!

And here I was expecting a post on carburetors.

It's for this purpose I keep my razors on my dresser. Too high for the kiddos to get to, and away from the steamy humidity of the bathroom. My wife makes it her goal to steam up the bathroom so when she gets out it's warm. I get it, but it'd be ruin for razors.

Let's so some quick math here... Let's say you have a 30ft x 30ft, 2 story house + basement. Assuming all floors have 8ft ceilings. That's 30ft x 30ft x 8ft x 3floors = 21600 cubic feet. That would mean you would be able to completely remove & replace the air in your entire home more than twice each minute. That's one heck of a bathroom fan !! I WANT ONE !!! )

Jack tells me the main fans are moving about 350k cfm. I hear a big issue is properly ventilating the working face while keeping the air flow at the entrance slow enough that people can still work. It gets windy in there!

I store my razors in a rack in my bathroom. Well, my wife really likes to empty the hot water tank while taking her shower and refuses to open the bathroom door to let all the steam out.

Straight Razors + Horn Scales + 20 minutes of steam = total disaster

So I just installed a 110 CFM exhaust fan right above the shower - the quietest one that is made. Took 6 hours rolling in fiberglass insulation and it was worth every minute.

The bathroom is clear and the razors love it. I wonder how many M3 cartridges I would have had to buy for this much cheaper hobby now

Do you vent that air into the attic or outside?

I vented outside. That was part of the 6 hours.

I have a cabinet above my bathroom sink. Below that cabinet, there are two 50W halogen bulbs that illuminate the sink. Whenever I grab the basket, it's pretty warm.

My razors are always warmer than the bathroom air. That means nothing condensates on them, which definitely helps for corrosion. I've had my basket for 6 months in this location, and there's no corrosion anywhere on my razors.

A little trick for those who don't already do it, before wiping my razors down & giving them their final strop until their next use, I run them under hot water for a few seconds so the steel gets hot. Again, this is so the humidity in the bathroom air doesn't condensate on the razors before putting them away.
