Custom case project
So my wife bought me a metal case with a soft liner to store my str8s. She had engraved in the top, my name and a small skull like one of my tattoos. I bought shelf-liner (thick and squishy like a thick foam) kit from Sears for $20. I'm planning on cutting out the liners to fit the str8s snugly. I'm currently awaiting my second razor in the mail, so only having one, I don't know what length I should expect to need to cut out. I'd like to make the cut outs uniform, so if anyone has a perfect length suggestion to use I'm all ears. Here are some pics of the before. I'll update pics shortly.

If you want to accommodate any razor you wind up with, yet have all the liners equal in size, you will have to consider what size razor you gravitate toward.
I like larger razors, many as long (closed) as 6 1/2 inches and one that is 7 1/2 inches long although that one is very large. Six and a half inches long should accommodate 99% of the razors out there.

You don't want uniform cause over time you will likely acquire larger and thicker razors so you just want to take that into account.
When I first started out I had a case made and it was uniform and a year later I had razors that would not fit into it.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Good to know. Mine is 6'5" so that works out well. Since it is foam, I will always be able to cut out extra for width. If I cut the foam so there is a gap in the middle of the length, then to accomodate more length, instead of cutting out extra foam where the blade rests, I could always shave off along the ends of the foam along the width of the box. That'll extend the gap between the foam sides.
Something like the pic below. (Belongs to a member here, but saved the pic to my phone.. Sorry the idea holder isn't getting the credit deserved.)

I want to do the same thing... Been looking for a box for a while.
I saw one that I almost got and may got back to get. It was a fake book That was perfect as it was empty inside with no insert of any kind. My problem was what to use to hold my razors.
You just answered my question !!!
Can't wait to see how yours turns out.

Couldn't get the link because I'm on my phone but search for the heading next to the pic:
I don't know about the depth, but you should be able to fit str8s in it on their sides without a doubt. Also, the inserts have 6 slots. You could probably dremmel out spots so the razors sit perpendicular to how the cigars would have. You could get shelf liner (rubbery but thin) from Walmart ($10) like this to use for lining the bottom and the slots you cut out..
Or I could build it for a cheap fee and send it to ya

Here's the liner I just mentioned above. Keep in mind those boxes are only on the Bay for less than a day..

Those two BOXES up there are mine, and I was considering mass producing the strips of the foam like the pictures on the right, only problem is shipping hassles LOL

Would help, yeah! Thanks. I just cut out these..
That's going to be the bottom shelf. Then support and a top shelf with another three. It'll be a 6-Day Box, cuz I don't work on sundays
