Way back when; my father's oldest sister Leora moved from SE Washington (Pomeroy) to Glendale and spent 50 years there.
When she first got there she knew no one but soon had several good friends. They would get together at each others home for coffee, chat and perhaps a bite to eat. One day when she was at a friends she was served homemade blueberry muffins. She complimented her friend on her baking skills but added that she wished they were made with Huckleberries. None of her friends knew what those were and asked her to describe them.
Leora said she thought for a bit and said; "Huckleberries taste like what Blueberries ought to".
You'd have to taste the huckleberries to know what she's talking about. :tu
I grew up on a Michigan lake where we had a nice big patch of Huckleberries growing right in our front yard I guess you'd call it. Just a few feet past and you were in the lake right out front. We used to have this plaque on our kitchen wall which was a recipe for Blueberry Grunt which was basically a hot biscuit smothered in stewed huckleberries and sugar and topped with whipped cream ...mmmmmmmmmmm !!
