    Default Vitamix Blender

    My son came to visit this weekend and he brought his Vitamix blender with him. What a beast of a machine. He has lost 20 pounds recently doing meal replacements with the Vitamix and eating healthier and is also now up to running 3 miles a day. He really looks great and says he feels a ton better.

    I tried a fruit blend and a vegetable blend he made for me and they really were not bad at all taste wise. I thought the consistency was going to put me off and it didn't in either case. We discussed recipes and eating habits and don't ya know, I just had to get on board and bought me a Vitamix. Oy! I eat way too much red meat and loves my carbs, but know I need to change things here along with my daily workouts.

    Now while I'm waiting for the thing to get here, I am scouring the web for good recipes and recommendations. Finding tons of stuff.

    So, I am wondering if any of you guys are into this and might have some really good blender recipes that you have tried and actually taste decent?

    Thanks!

    Sorry, Lynn. Alls I can think of is Margaritas and Bloody Marys. I did note the other day a huge pile of cars at my local barber shop. I went in for a haircut and asked about it and they said a Herbalife deal had gone in next door. They related the sound of blenders whirring for a few hours and everyone would leave. Happens every day, so must be a blender lifestyle going on. Seems good for the metablolism?

    I've been doing blender shakes for years...well over 35 years! I love it!

    Start my day everyday with a protein shake, and then another one later in the afternoon. I also have a Vitamix for vegetable and fruit juices which I drink through out the day.

    My one actual meal is dinner time where I pretty much eat what I want. Love Red meat...eggs...etc. all the so called 'Bad Stuff', yet at age 65 I have virtually NO Cholesterol or Triglycerides, and my BP is 115 / 68.

    I have tons of recipes Lynn...I'll dig some up and post 'em...

    I got one of the Ninjas, and it works great as well.
    I also got a juicer after watching "Fat sick and nearly dead" on youtube(it used to be free now they charge for seeing it)

    Juicing is more extreme than drinking blended veggies, in any case 3 or 5 day reboots are really good for the body. Weight melts a way with no extra exercise even.

    I began juicing (vegetable) not moonshine, in the early 70s. Had an Acme Juicerator, which is a centrifugal type that spins, collects the pulp in a basket with tightly meshed walls, that the juice has to pass through to get to the extraction process. Makes very clean and tasty juice. Many moves and a divorce later I don't know what happened to the juicer, and I bought a 'masticating' type, a Champion juicer.

    The juice is not as clear and 'clean' in that there is a certain amount of pulp that finds its way into it, but it is probably more nutrient filled than the centrifugal type, since it extracts the majority of the pulp rather than capturing it in a basket, and then forcing the juice through it. You can also make nut butters with the Champion if it is worth the greasy mess at cleanup. I've done it but won't again. Never used the Vita Mix but I've heard good things. Here is a PDF link on juicing with of the type Stefan and I are referring to ...... ;

    Yes Lynn I have old a vita mix for sometime now. I have also used it for meal replacement and to eat healthier. You can do so much with this machine and there are a lot of recipes on the net. Also when your machine arrives it will have a large cookbook with it. You can get a lot of tips at the vitamix enthusiast yahoo group.

    One nice thing about doing smoothies is that any leftover fruit that we can't eat fast enough you just throw into the freezer. And when fruit is in season (although you can get stuff almost anytime now) we buy a bunch and freeze it.
    We also like coconut milk in there, and instead of keeping cans on hand, you can freeze a bunch in ice cube trays and just throw a couple in each time.
    No need for ice when you freeze the fruit.
