Thanked: 250This morning it started to blizzard here in North Dakota. By noon no travel was advised.....very depressing. There's only one cure for the blizzard blues and that's comfort food made on cast iron. Grandma Griswold and Grandma Wagner to the rescue. Tonight one of the Wagner #6's fried up some homemade pork sausage links and the Griswold waffle iron cooked a batch of vanilla/nutmeg waffles. Yep, TC I smothered the waffles in Mrs. Butterworths syrup again.

Well can't blame you, waffles and sausage great comfort food in a storm. I wish I could eat some myself, but I,m thinking with all the guys making syrup right about now. I might have to send a care package to save your life my friend! If nothing else even a jug of Costco pure maple syrup. Tc

Thanked: 250Today I cooked a noon time meal for one of my old widow women and her step daughter. Since meal planning is not my forte all I had to do was roll out my cast iron storage rack and one look at the Wagner dutch oven solved all my problems. Dutch oven baked chicken thighs smothered in onions, mashed taters, chicken gravy, vinegar string beans, and sweet pickles. A Wosty shave and a Wagner meal will score with the ladies every time.

Cast Iron Supper
I found a couple of turkey legs at the store and that started me thinking
So I picked them up (1.5 lbs ea) a large sweet potato and some stove top. I pulled some turkey broth that I had made out of the freezer and away we went.
The legs were too large to roast in my usual stove top dutch oven so I pulled out the Big Boy!
Here's the legs right out of the oven.
The sweet potato simmering in the butter/brown sugar sauce.
And the meal ready to dish up--the legs were in the glassware only to keep warm while I finished everything else.
Benz, please stop drooling on your key board. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.
