One of my daughter being vegan the options for Xmas dinner are limited. My wife decided to support the local Chinese restaurant that was hit hard by the corona crisis. They do a decent vegan main dish. The missus will be making vegan peanut soup for starters and I'll bake a vegan blueberry flaugnarde for afters.

    Just me and the wife.

Doing steaks, (Ribeye or Porterhouse) on the barbie. I'll grill in a blizzard if I have to, wouldn't be the first time.
    Baked potatoes
    Corn
    Homemade dinner rolls
    Dutch apple pie, possibly Alamode
    Pecan pie

Then a pillow and a comfy spot to vegetate in.

Just going to be the two of us, so plan is Red Menudo with some homemade French bread for sopping. Scary part, I am 0 for 2 in making edible menudo. My second attempt the flavors were on point, but I am on autopilot and the first thing I do when I open the lid is stir. But you have to skim the fat off the top periodically so I just ended up with all that stirred in. But, when I made beef broth the other week I just took the spoon away. So, I have complete confidence in myself.

Of course, if the confidence is misplaced we will have ham steaks, mashed potatoes, and green beans. And the French bread.

Also, planning a sourdough monkey bread for breakfast and dessert. Bringing in MikeB52s tradition.

    Aloha!

I typically do a Hawaiian Christmas Dinner, meaning Roasted Pork (traditionally pig roasted in the ground, but obviously I'm not doing a Luau, so it will be oven roasted), Chicken Long Rice (Hawaiin Chicken Noodle Soup) and Poi. I'm not a huge fan of Poi, but it's once a year, and it's traditional, so I prepare Poi. SWMBO also wants poached Salmon, which is also traditional in Hawaii. That's fine with me. Pork and Salmon is like Surf and Turf to Hawaiians. And because I'm doing Salmon, I'm also doing roasted potatos and asparagus. A side salad rounds out the Christmas feast for us.

Desert is simple. Monkey Bread Hawaiian style. King's Hawaiian Rolls baked in a pan with butterscotch pudding, chopped Macadamia Nuts, Cinnamon, Butter and Vanilla Bean. That's a once a year maximum treat for me because I can't stop eating it. It's too dangerous to have around the house more than once a year for me.

That's our Christmas Eve Spread. Except we add Braunsweiger with Onions on Crackers, Shrimp Cocktail and Deviled Eggs. And I have to have pitted Black Olives. Black pitted olives is a Christmas Eve staple that dates back to my childhood. The taste of the olives alone reminds me of Christmas because I only have them once a year on Christmas Eve.

Braunsweiger is another one of those treats that I can't have around the house or I'll not be able to stop eating it. Once a year is my limit.

All sounds delicious. It looks like we're going to be quarantined, since the guy my son went duck-hunting with tested positive today. So it looks like I'll be cooking the ducks in raspberry sauce my son brought home and posted about in another thread.

If I screw that up we'll still have snacks like JohnToad posted about above. I've got the summer sausage, cheese and fancy crackers, and I made 4 batches of homemade chex mix today. And yeah, bourbon in honor of TC.
