I usually keep 3-to-5 kinds of whisk(e)y open in the home lineup:
Single malts (Islay preferred) neat, with water back
Bourbon, rocks. I also grow mint in the summer for mint juleps.
I also enjoy rye, Irish, the occasional Canadian. The latter is almost always Pendleton's, for the holidays. Its spice notes make it a natural for Christmas sipping.
Beer, and lots of it, Ales, lager and most any kind of quality brew.
Belgian, German and Norwegian mostly.
A nice french red, Gin Tonic, Dry martinis, Single malt Whiskey.
If there's Balvenie at the bar (12- or 15-year; 21 is just for home), that's what I get. Always neat.
If there's no Balvenie (which is a sad story), then it's an Old Fashioned.

I like Jack & Ginger too, but if you like the run & gin drinks, I would suggest trying a GOOD Mojito ... smooth and light. Great summer/hot weather drink.

Where I come from and amongst those with whom I drink, mixing single malts, or to be honest any decent scotch whiskey with anything other than a dash of tap water is considered a form of sacrilege (here in Scotland we have some of the best drinking tapwater anywhere). Oh the scorn that would be heaped on me for even considering adding some form of softdink or ice..... Doesn't bear thinking of really :p
And on to my drinking lol, I used to love negro modello beer, but nowhere here seems to sell it now, I have taken to budvar, and also sam adams on occasion, but whiskey is my favourite go to of choice, although I have a spot for a bloody mary now and them :)

Anyone else here like to infuse their own liquors?
I recently made a pear/cinnamon infused vodka:
4 sticks cinnamon
5 pears cored and cut up into largish chunks
1 gallon of potato vodka
Leave in a container in a dark area for a week, stirring daily. Vodka turns to a color that resembles Apple Juice. Strain out and pour into glass containers that you can pour from.
The finished flavor had almost no alcohol taste or smell to it. It was really minimal which was surprising as I expected to just add the flavor. I found that if I took a bottle of Mott's Apple Cider (not the powder crap), and did a 50/50 of cider/vodka in a shaker with ice, shook it up to chill it and then poured it.... the flavor actually resembled apple sauce. There was no alcoholic taste to it which made it dangerous.. but tasted delicious.

I occasionally infuse Jack Daniels with some Coke. Other than that, it's Irish whiskey or bourbon, neat. My wife likes vodka though, so I'll pass this recipe along to her; thanks for sharing.
In Korea it's popular in the smaller towns for people to infuse rice wine with various things, usually some kind of bone they attribute a health benefit to. I've never had it but I've been told it has a taste like everclear and gasoline mixed. I've also heard of infusing coffee and vodka but have never tried it.
