There are many things I drink, either because of my job or for pleasure. Besides water, of course! :-)
Here they are, with no specific order:

    - Wine (professional taster, wine maker, wine writer, have it for the pleasure of it!)
    - Beer (professional taster, homebrewer)
    - Tea (professional taster, I love it!)
    - Coffee (professional taster)
    - Cider (Homebrewer)
    - Mead (Homebrewer)
    - Water (professional taster, the mother of them all)

    Default Arak ?

Anyone tried this aniseed flavored distilled liquor? Any recommendations on brands available in the U.S. ?

Yes! I drank Arak regularly during the 25 years I spent in Israel (Arak is enjoyed throughout the Mediterranean basin). I haven't a clue about what brands are available here in the US, or even which are good/better/best -- I'm afraid I wasn't a very discerning drinker, and bought the least-expensive bottle on the grocery store's shelf.

Arak mixes-up nicely with fresh-squeezed orange juice, and is a delicious combination at all concentrations.
You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Generally, I drink what I have. Beer drinker by trade but in the fall and winter, I tend to be a bourbon/whiskey drinker as well (Makers Mark or Jameson). In the early spring, I begin quinnine therapy with gin and tonics, you can't be too careful about malaria you know. Usually Gilbey's or Beefeater gin but sometimes Bombay.

Of course all of the above are evening drinks. morning is good coffee and mid day I often reach for a good sweet tea or Arnold Palmer.

A Mediterranean/ Middle Eastern grocery near me carries several different brands from different countries in different price ranges. From what I've read the Lebanese Araks are said to be very good. Will have to start trying them.

My all time favourite drink is Wild Turkey, on ice. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with a nice cold beer or stout.

I also like Hennessy Cognac, but don't drink it too often as its rather expensive, and a bottle of alcohol always seems to "disappear" as soon as I get my hands on it.....
