    Thats a beautiful bit of cast iron! I hope the wife took it well... I love cast iron pans but the wife is the sole reason i dont buy anything... My nuts would end up in a jar ha ha!

    For me its the quality and how well they perform. I find they heat far better then a 'modern' pan. I also like that it will probably outlast me because of the quality. Another plus.. If someone tries to break in my house ill crack them with the pan... That willknock them out ha ha ha

    Everything, beef, eggs etc., tastes better fried in an old cast iron pan.

    Everything is better cast iron cooked. I have a large and small pan, a skillet, a fajita pan, and some cobbler pots. Most of which my mother gave me.

    To me cast is kinda like shaving with a straight. You season them lovingly and nothing compares when you use other things. I love cast out of doors, often I need to use ali, stainless or Ti so it can be carried distances. Cast iron would be my first choice every time if it weren't for the weight. I use cast at home as well at every opportunity, it's kind of like comparing beer out of a bottle or pint glass compared to a plastic cup in my opinion...
