No offense to those in New Zealand but American lamb is far superior....and priced accordingly. A full leg is a lot of food for the two of us so we usually opt for small loin chops (like little t-bone steaks) or the rack. And while I love to braise the shanks, my wife is less enthusiastic about that preparation. But overall, I don't find that lamb is terribly popular in the US. It sells, at restaurants to some degree but you don't see it sold or consumed in the volumes of other red meat like beef. My enthusiasm and consumption of it is not the norm.
