Does anybody who grew up in northern NJ remember Hoffman's sodas from Newark? Those were my favorite growing up... nothing out there today that I've tried even comes close.

Debbie Downer!
In MN, we have a number of "microbrew" pops. We call it pop here, "soda" will get you responses of Minnesota un-nice.
Killebrew root beer comes to mind. I'm not sure if it's still made but it's named after the killer so you know it's good.

Thanked: 1371I live in MN and call it soda.
Most people do call it pop though.
Pop is such an ugly sounding word.
My favorite was Coke Blak, but you can't get it here anymore.
I make my own by brewing french roast coffee as dark as I can get it, and mixing 50/50 with Coke.Last edited by HNSB; 08-05-2011 at 03:22 PM.

In my part of the South, it's soda or just a Coke. But I remember old-timers growing up calling them "dopes." And yeah, Blenheim's ginger ale is made in South Carolina, so I'll grab one sometimes. Just have another drink ready to cool your mouth if you get the hot version!
There are many roads to sharp.

Back in the Late 80's I spent some time in Newport Rhode Island sailing. I was lucky enough to get a bed with a friend of a friends family while down there. We were sitting around the breakfast table one morning and I was telling the story how the night before I had gone to a Pop Machine and when I put in my money in gave me 4 times the money back plus 3 pops. For a young 19 year old on the road on his own for the first time this was similar to winning at the slot machine. As I looked around the table there were 4 dead blank faces all staring back at me like I had swintched to speaking Punjab or something. They had no idea what a pop machine was or what i was even hinting at.
Most Canadians call it POP. Best we really get up here in any volume is Jones. My Daughter Loves it and we bought her a case with some of her photos on the bottles. Made her Birthday that yearLast edited by dyimages; 08-05-2011 at 08:59 PM.
