I take back what I said in a recent post about getting a bottle of Laphroiag Quarter Cask. When my local had their 10 year old Cask Strength for just a few dollars more, I picked it up instead. Batch #8 here, non chil-filtered and bottled at a whopping 59%.
If you like a big, bold Islay, this is like QC on steroids, but in an almost overwhelmingly delicious way. The flavors come bursting out in a treacly, oily explosion of peat, iodine and other phenols. It is briny and somehow even sweeter than QC-I even like a few small sips neat, although it says on the bottle to add twice as much water as whisky.
I highly recommend Cask Strength. It became by far my new favorite out of all the single malts I've tried after the first sip.Last edited by ScoutHikerDad; 05-04-2017 at 12:34 AM.
