Thanked: 98For me a lot of reading and then a lot of trial and error small batches can be helpful. I found early setting out for a. Certain style of roast and end purpose helped a lot. I first mastered a good filter blend then worked up to a dark for espresso and once I had a good feel for both it was easier for me to get single origins and a multiple of others right. Tons of stuff online and remember nothing helps more than reading and planning.

Thanked: 98In talks with a guy about an old but still running wood fired roaster. Anybody got one of those? I'm thinking about doing some "distinct" wood roasts along side my current roaster. In my head roasting over things like old bourbon and sherry barrels sounds cool. But, how much flavour comes through.

Recently upgraded my espresso setup (ECM Mechanica V Slim / Eureka Mignon Specialita) and after a week of being high on caffeine I'm finally pulling excellent shots and milk frothing. Took some coffee beans to get the grinder adjusted for espresso and the amount of flushing needed to get the perfect brew temp. Overall I'm very pleased and impressed with the quality, fit and finish of the Mechanica V Slim.

Thanked: 3I got rid of my espresso machine and just have the ek43 and filter paper which takes up less space. I was never any good at latte art so the other gubbins now sit in the laundry gathering dust. I guess that makes me a bit of a drip.
