True or false?
I was told many years ago by an old time barber, when you finish shaving you have 3 minutes to apply an after shave prep. After that time the benefits of such prep decrease very rapidly.
When I say benefits I mean something that will sooth burn and condition the face.
So what do you think? No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I read something along those lines, either in a book on shaving, or in a forum post. Can't remember which. I guess it would be easy enough to prove one way or the other, if someone wanted to wait 5 minutes before splashing on the A/S. Not me though, I like the Bay Rum burn too much to risk wasting it.

Well I am but a data point and I'll say this... I have no idea if that's true or not. I mean I put my aftershaves on before my face even fully drys. But I will add that putting on a second application well after 5 minutes when you are suffering dearly, sure helped me out back in the day.
It could have been all in my head... but I don't think so.David

Thanked: 270If that's the case, I never get the maximum benefits. After I finish I wash, dry, strop the razor to make sure it is free of water and soap residue, and put the blade away. Then I wash the lather off my face and apply aftershave. Then I clean up the brush and mug.
I wonder what I'm missing?

Thanked: 220The sooner you apply aftershave, the stronger the sting/cooling effect.

Does the alum block count? If not, its quite a few min before i get to the AS (alum, witch hazel, then AS balm)

Skin absorbs whatever goes on it. I don't know if shaved skin acts differently.
