You're lucky the stuff didn't eat your face away. I know a guy who used it daily for years and he looked like the hideous sun demon.

Thayers medicated witch hazel also called super hazel is great stuff if you get serious burn and related issues.

I bought a bottle of the regular Thayers/Aloe/Witch Hazel/Lemon and liked it but, at $8.00, felt a little ripped off. WHen it was near empty I went to the drug store and bought some aloe cold process gel, lemon essence, 91% rubbing alcohol and witch hazel. I'm on my third version and have it perfect (for me, anyhow). Using the empty Thayers 12-ounce bottle...

squirt in about 3 tablespoons aloe gel
pour in alcohol filling bottle to 1/3, approx
    add 25-30 drops lemon essence
    shake it up
    top with generic witch hazel
    shake it some more

Lovely scent, smooth on the skin, mildly antiseptic, dry in five minutes or so. I use it after every shave and think this recipe, for about a buck a bottle, is much nicer than the original Thayers.

My wife uses a SR on her legs and after shaving she uses the juice of one of our aloe plants to massage her legs. She cuts off a sprig of aloe and puts it in a plastic bag for later use. She claims it works better than anything she has tried

Speik, Pre de Provence, I Coloniali, and Institut Karite are all known for their skin healing/moisturizing properties.

Witch hazel works like Magic!! Then I use an alcohol based splash to disinfect and i have near perfect complexion. Of course just shaving with a straight razor has a lot to do with that. No more razor bumps or irritation I got from the disposables.

What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

The same except for the complexion. A lot of south Texas and south Louisiana sun pretty well cooked out any hope for passing as a kid.
