    Default Washing face after shaving

The other day I was talking to a younger friend of mine who just started learning the art of SR shaving. I explained to him how I wash my face after a shave with cold water, to still some irritation and close the pores, before putting on aftershave lotion, if needed. My sister overheard our conversation and said that when she has removed her makeup she is washing her face with lukewarm water and later with cold. This is to cleanse all the pores so there won't be anything trapped inside when the cold water closes them.

Not sure if the same principles applies to shaving, the products we use don't have much in common with makeup (I guess). But it kind of makes sense to clean your face before closing the pores with cold water, so there won't be any soap or cream stuck there. I started doing this now. Better safe than sorry

Just thought I'd share this, since I hadn't really though of it maybe there is someone else who haven't...

I use hot, wet bar towel from a microwave I have in the Shave Den(small cramped bathroom) to cleanse the face after the shave, it removes any lather left also. Then I follow up immediately with an alum bar.

Sorry but your pores do not change size and that's a medical fact. The skin around the pores can plump up which gives it the appearance of changes but that's all it is.

I know many believe the pores can change size. An Urban myth I guess.

However personally I do a hot towel after shaving with shave cream reapplied and then follow with a cold water wash. it just feels good.

Everyone is a bit different. Personally, cold water to rinse off lather, put on alum and rinse off with cold water, pat dry and apply aftershave. Actually cold water start to finish.

This is what I typically do as well, it seems to be the most effective post shave routine to keep my skin happy.

Okay! But they still open and close with hot and cold water though? Or is this also wrong...? Becouse thats more my point than the pores changing size. Or am I totally wrong?

For me, hot water after a shave doesn't feel good at all. Feels like I'm making my skin irritated even if it wasn't after the shave. So I guess that is all a matter of skintype and personal preference.

No, the pores never change size at all under any circumstances.
