i do not use balms.. as i have naturally oil rich skin... but i also believe that it would make more sense to shave than follow with an alcohol based aftershave and then finish with a moisturizing balm..

Good to hear, I'll try some then.

I tried the Nivea cooling - too perfumey for me, and I liked the more subdued scent of the extra sensitive, but would have liked it better if it had some alcohol in it.

How's the Replenishing scent wise ? Though I realize that's a subjective thing.

My roommate had a bottle of this in the bathroom and I gave it a try after a shave the other day, it was ok but it left my face feeling a bit sticky. Does the sensitive version eliminate this problem? I read on here that some people feel it leaving their skin oily, can anyone shed some light?

The sensitive formula does cut down the stickiness a bit IMO. To me Nivea products may feel sticky for a few minutes, but once it settles it leaves my face feeling very nice indeed. It's never really been a problem. Personally I find that the tacky feeling I get from Nivea is no worse than I get from Trumpers Skin Food combined with my other aftershaves, but YMMV.

I believe the scent is very mild and pleasant, and does not linger after application. But to be fair, I apply it after having applied Dominica Bay Rum, which is pretty strong. I don't think it is perfumey at all.

Certainly one of the biggest challenges in this art is trying to find what works for you. Not only functionally, but also something you like for your tastes.

I can't tell you how many times I've bought something on somebody else's recommendations and now it is sitting it the "dead product basket" under my sink. But I have just as many that are still in rotation.

I have not used the replenishing balm, but I do use the sensitive. Looking at the ingredients on both, the sensitive just seems to have the better ingredient profile. At first I was hesitant and did not believe the hype because I don't usually purchase inexpensive commercial skin products, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I actually started using the Nivea Sensitive as my daily moisturizer. I use it all over my face whether I shave or not. It is light, pleasant and my skin seems to look and feel better since I started using it.

I used the Sensitive prior to the Replenishing. For me, the Sensitive treated my skin kindly, but did nothing to help seal my skin following the shave.

I've done that as well, and it does work. Nowadays I've switched to the Body Shop's maca root formula as my go-to daily face moisturizing cream. It's not as cheap as Nivea but it works wonders for my Canadian prairie face (yes, that's my usual nod to Obie).
