Default need a after shave conditioner

after I shave, my skin gets VERY dry and itchy. Does anyone have a good after shave product, such as a lotion or cream that isnt too girly?

After my shave, I rinse with cold water, pat dry then I apply some witch hazel, then I follow up with an after shave balm and I am good all day. There are many great after shave balm products available, it's just a matter of you selecting one that appeals to your nose and skin. Right now I am using some Gillette Fusion after shave balm only because at the time I switched from disposable razor to a straight razor, my wife had just picked up the tube for me, so there's no harm in using it. It does work well for me.

My go to is and has always been corn husker's lotion. It is commonly available, has a neutral scent, works great, not oily and best of all it is cheap.

Harris makes a product, skin milk and Trumpers makes skin food. Both are highly regarded. I've used both and like them.

if i dont get a good shave and i feel the razor burn, i use the alum block all over my face, let it sit for while I strop, then rinse it off, and put on some witch hazel, then nivea after shave or trumpers skin food
if i get a good shave, just the alum block (seriously it works wonders for my skin, i have a kind of eczema that cant be treated and the alum block makes it nearly disappear).

i only use the skin food because i got a sampler. cornhuskers smells exactly the same, and actually feels better. and its $4 a bottle. skin food is like $35.

Also, keep in mind that Corn Husker's Lotion is basically Trumper's Skin Food minus the scent, and for a LOT less money...

Seriously? I use my alum block on any cuts but never though of using it as an 'all over'

Anyone else do this? My shave is tomorrow or TH and I will have to give it a go.

Alum block, all over, every time. Let it sit on the face for five minutes, then a cold wet towel to "tap" a little of it off. Then lavender witch hazel from Thayers, all over & plenty. Never had dry itchy skin with this combo. If my shave was rough (trying out a new razor) , then the Nivea after shave conditioner.

sounds good; any ingrowns afterwards, or pimples? I have only heard of using Witch Hazel on sun burns so it seems it would make sense to get rid of the irratation.

    cjglancy,

I use E45 lotion when I need to sooth my chops; it is very well priced (even here in the UK !!) and does a fine job.

If the itch etc is very bad, try using nappy rash cream - odd, but it works a treat (I use SudoCrem)

    Good luck !

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ
