Your best bet would be to use alcohol for the diluting agent. The problem with water or witch hazel is it will probably not mix with the cologne, and create a hazy and unclear mixture. Around 2 parts of alcohol to one part of cologne should be the ballpark for a splash, or one part each for aftershave.

Have fun, and let us know how it goes

    Best of luck

Also, witch hazel has it's own scent which if unmasked doesn't always go good with other scents.

Just curious, but what kind of alcohol would you use?

Well... I used one part isopropyl 92%, one part witch hazel, one part of my favorite cologne and a few drops of EVOO. Alcohol is an emulsifier, and it joins oils and waters. Oddly enough, when I added the EVOO, it sank and hovered in a ball about 2/3 of the way to the bottom!

Quickly recovering from that neat phenomenon, I gave it a shake and it all blended.

Upon using it after my very first complete shave, I realized that alcohol is mighty strong!

I poured a quarter of it out and added more witch hazel.

Since I had cut myself a few times, I decided to add three of those q-tip style styptic swabs' worth of styptic juice to the mix.

Let me say... it all burns like hell, but it stopped the bleeding pretty well and left a fine amount of EVOO on my skin and one of my favorite scents -Adidas Dare.

I smell good, and my face is still smooth after two hours. I think a little tinkering and I'll have a decent enough aftershave tonic. I may add some lidocaine jelly... it's scentless and has a numbing effect to counteract the alcohol!

I'll call it: Scott's Cooling Aftershave and Nerve Tonic. -Takes the anxiety out of straight razor shaving and doesn't smell like an old man! Ladies will swoon! You will look forward to shaving just so that you can feel this on your face afterward!
