Any cosmetic grade talc contains no asbestiform fibers which Is what is in industrial grade talc and is classified as a human carcinogen. So no it does not cause cancer. The article I posted on this thread from the national institute of health details all of it. It's a good read.

Yes thanks for posting and does make an interesting read. I didn't know if Gold Bond and "talc" were the same thing?

If it isn't talc then I think the only other thing it could be is corn starch. I'm not familiar with gold bond but Im sure it would be one if the two for the main ingredients.

I use TOBS talcum powder after a lot of shaves. Honestly, I don't worry about what's in it. If that's not the thing that gets me it will be something else. So I plan to thoroughly enjoy my shaves and use talcum powder!

Indeed, Gold Bond powders do use cornstarch instead of, as do most others produced in the US (Odor Eaters, for instance).

Coincidentally, just last week I researched talc to see if it is still used to prevent pests in packaged rice. The search revealed a number of things:

It's no longer used in rice in the United but is still common elsewhere

Talc deposits are often found coexisting with a form of fibrous asbestos
    which is dangerous to inhale..

however, since 1976 in the US inspection standards were established
    which have eliminated this danger

The International something-or-other Cancer Risk rating of talc alone
is Class 2b, which is the same rating given coffee and cellphones

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition finds no risk in talc
consumption Talc-coated rice as a risk factor for stomach cancer.

    rs,
    Tack
