I do a cold water splash then while face is wet rub alum block, let dry, apply witch hazel, let dry, then Nivia balm (or aftershave). Seems to work well. I clean my brush and strop during drying times to be more efficient....

It's very good stuff, I know in Europe they swear by it for make-up removal.
I tend to lean towards Witch Hazel without Alcohol now since it's easier to apply without rub in.

    Gentlemen,
Would you mind posting some pics of the various Nivea balms mentioned in this thread? I want to be sure we have the same ones here in the UK/Europe... I believe we may have a slight difference.

Tried Nivea aftershave balm (regular with aloe) for the first time last night. I had decent expectations from the reviews in this forum. But I just have to say I am very impressed. For $5 and some change, it seams to perform just as good, if not better, than some that cost well over $20. A bbs shave in this harsh winter typically leaves my face pretty dry. The Nivea did the trick. Very moisturizing without leaving a greasy feel. I also like the smell which seams a bit more modern than say a Pinaud or the typical bay rum (not to say that I don't enjoy the traditional scents, I do). Anyway, I think this is a great balm for the money. No parabens or other questionable ingredients. I will definitely keep it on hand.

This is the Nivea I have been using the odd time I needed a balm.

I've been using splashes and L'Occitane balm after shaving in the morning but I do love the Nivea balm enough to apply it almost every night after showering as a night time moisturizer. Tha's worked out very well leaving my face feeling great and ready to shave the next morning.
