Default My head is on fire!

So I have been shaving my head with a straight razor for about a month now. Well today I had the closest shave I have ever felt on my head. It feels amazing. However my head has felt like it is on fire all day. I shaved it this morning but still as i type this it burns. I always take a shower before shaving my head. After that I put on some pre shave oil, shave and after I use an alum block where needed. After that I have a few different aftershaves I have been trying. I have some nivea lotion, neutrogena lotion and some pinaud clubman. The clubman seems to work the best but would still like to know any ideas to make it so I don't feel like a match thats on fire!

    Thanks, Josh

I have been shaving my head daily for about 15 years now, and I reckognize that burning you describe from way back when.
It sounds to me like your prep, and the products used are of good quality.

You know, I find that for me, a complete head-shave takes a toll on a straight razors edge.
Simply because there are a whole lot of strands of hair to cut.
The razors I use for my head-shaves are honed a bit more often than the ones used for my facial shave.

So here's what I would look for to fix this:
Make sure your edges are still up to snuff.
Make sure you are applying as little pressure as possible
Make sure your angles are low low low.

    God luck

Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

I only head shave in the summer months & Birnando's advice is spot on. I personally only use a heavy grind razor (1/4 grind) for my head shaving & I usually touch up the razor after each shave. Just a few passes (4-6) on 16K & 100x on the strop does it for me.

I've also been shaving my head daily for years I also use straight razors that are more honed for my head. It takes me an hour to shave my head this includes prep time I do two passes with the grain and two passes against the grain. I lather up for each pass and I use a lot of aftershave balm but my head looks like it has been buffed with a power tool

Jack Black Cooling Shave Gel eliminates any razor burn I've ever had. Available at Sephora or online. And, no, I don't own Sephora.

Witch Hazel always quenches razor burn on my face. Wonder if it would work on the scalp?

Should work great. Maybe something with Witch Hazel and Aloe would be about perfect for those irritated and tender areas. This product can also be used as a "moist compress".

( Couldn't resist... but it would probably actually work well. It does on cuts, anyway; or so I'm told...)

I'd like to recommend RazoRock AS Wax, puts the fire out.
