Thanked: 1263I have a bottle of Brut in my collection of A/S's I apply all over the area shaven..also find it to be a good gauge if the shave was done properly..the less burn the better the shave was done.

Thanked: 33I too apply the A/S to all areas shaved. I get a bit of burn, but it fades quick. And I get more or less depending on the type used. My Captains Choice bay rum is defiantly the most noticeable burn, and my Musgo Real is the least. But the end result is usually the same smooth skin.
If the splash is a problem, you could go with a balm or gel. Some, like AoS balms, give a very very mild burn, while others, like GFT or TOBS, give none but stI'll leave smooth skin.

Thanked: 33Yup - cheeks too!!!!
After shave scents are usually nice, but very few last more than a couple hours, and is usually pretty mild.
Colognes will have a stronger scent that should last longer. Of course, there are thousands of colognes. Some are very inexpensive, and some cost A LOT. But it offers a variety of scents. I actually enjoy trying to combine pre shave oils, soaps, a/s splashes or balms with a cologne. There are also many companies who have the same scent in an entire line, from pre shave oil to cologne.
Since cologne is typically a stronger scent, I use very little...especially when going to work as to not offend anyone who may be allergic to or not like the scent. To me, the cologne is to be most enjoyed by those who will be close to you.
I apply a spray or splash of cologne on my neck, right around the collar line, and another spray or splash on my wrists, which I then rub together.

Thanked: 1195Yeah, aftershave is fine for your cheeks. Whoever told you aftershave is meant for neck, chest and behind the ears was thinking of cologne/EdT. Due to the higher percentage of fragrance oil, cologne is very drying to the skin. Besides, you'd end up smelling like a teenage boy or one of those greaseballs from Jersey Shore.

I've never used Cologne myself. I don't like overpowering scents in men or in women.
Probably the award for burn would go to Pinaud Lilac Vegetal. It's the ultimate test of good shaving skill.
They used to sell this product "Midnight in paris" years ago but it was womens stuff. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 2027is a reason colognes are applied to the neck areas and wrists,They are areas of high bloodflow, the skin is warmer and that enhances fragrances.

Thanked: 1160I concour on the shaving guage part. as for where to apply...I never overthought it. I just splashed it on,never dreading one moment burn or no burn. I love right after the shave and splashin on some after shave and then the moustache wax. It's the cherry on the sundae ahhhhh ! Never been a cologne fan though...too much fer me. and can't stand some of the modern almost perfume colognes that some of the younger set wears these days. Talk about smelling like soiled dove's.....wheeeewwww ! I learned how to splash on AS from watchin all those old war movies and westerns as a wee sprout !
