Yes...Ed's Cold Path...still do that!!
With it nice and cold lately in Toronto, only around -3, not near the -21 coming in February, I just put my soap near the window in my bathroom, the radiant cold chills it nicely!
Still can't beat that thick, sticky lather you get from chilling your soaps. And practically, that wonderful cold blast on the face definitely contracts the skin and makes your whiskers stand up!
Hmmmm....what a strange word...whiskers? Whiskers....it even sounds strange...have to look up the etymology of that word!

A nice 10 minute hot shower is all I really need. I can even manage without it now. Something I could never do with carts.
From their stillness came their non-action...Doing-nothing was accompanied by the feeling of satisfaction, anxieties and troubles find no place

Thanked: 3225That is pretty much it. You have to experiment to see what works for you.
I think Ace had it right in that if your razor is really shave ready, your shaving technique is up to snuff and so is your lather you are pretty much good to go. An elaborate prep routine may just mask any deficiencies in those areas.
Then again some people have very sensitive skin and really do need all the help they can get and of course there is not a thing wrong with an elaborate prep routine if it pleases you to do so.

Thanked: 1195My prep used to be a bit more elaborate, but now I've settled on:
-Shower
-Proraso pre/post cream; soaks in while making lather
-Apply lather; let soak on face while combing hair, putting supplies away, etc
-Shave
I would estimate the process to take perhaps 2 mins.
