For me the biggest shaving secret was traditional wetshaving razors and soaps and learning how to use them. The equipment I used the majority of my adult life left my face feeling irritated.

I lather and shave. Three passes: with the grain, across the grain, and against the grain. That's all. No pre-shave treatments. I don't even use hot water, just tap water.
