Thanked: 0Lathering my face helps me get a closer shave with my double edge. I'm in a process of switching to straight razor. Does it help when using a straight razor?

I feel it helps prep the beard a bit more, lifts the hairs up and helps prevent ingrown hairs. Just my 2 cents. Only bad thing for me is that I have a hard time face lathering Cella shave soap, heave been sticking to my creams more.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

In my opinion, there are soaps/creams giving their best with bowl lathering, others with face lathering. Not all the soaps/creams are the same.

The perfect lather is what works best for you. I've only been straight shaving for a year now and I've come to learn two very important things.
1. Trying different soaps, creams, and techniques is where I get most of the enjoyment from straights. And the fact that you cannot get a better shave. IMO
2. Never shave after that third cup of java.
I never knew there were so many products out there until I found SRP. Been keeping the shipping companies busy ever since and people sharing here helps keep my addiction fed.
Just have fun with it. Try new things and share your experiences.

I have a pretty sensitive neck. Though I'm still rather new to straight razors I've been wet shaving for a few years. For me I like to face lather 1st pass, bowl on the second. I usually start the lather in the bowl and finish it on my face for the first pass, then build it in a bowl for the second. A bit time consuming, but I don't shave when I'm in a hurry and I go for comfort :-)

Thanked: 2Yeah, sometimes breaking out the bowls and everything is just more than what I want to do for a quick shave. I typically face lather with Tabac soap and then just dip brush in some water to remoisturize any drying areas. Stirring the lather in a bowl though really does fill up the room with a great aroma. Face lathering seems to work the lather into the beard much better.

Thanked: 60I'm a face lathering convert. For me the lathering on the face is a major part of the enjoyment, a massage for a couple of minutes with a soft badger or a stiffer boar for a real scrub is the key. 2 mins of lather bursting with scent right under my nose..luxury man pure luxury…..
also I hate washing up….bowls included…

Bingo: I will use the whole 9 yards when I am use the straight, but cut back to 5 yards when time or frame of mind does not allow me which I will then use a DE. The scuttle " makes my day " as most times I need to lather up several times to get to the hard spots and you are right as one touch with a cold brush just puts a damper on the experience.
