Cremo Shave Creme as Preshave
Well, I have tried most of the commercial pre shave products and have made many of my own using almond oil, grape seed, sesame seed, jojoba etc. However while once looking around at the shaving products in Walgreens looking for shaving soap, I came across a product called " Cremo" . It claimed to be slicker than any other product and that it was a product that did not produce a large lather. I thought this may be perfect for a pre shave.
I have found it to be very good as a pre shave product and use it daily. I apply a small amount from the tube and wet it with warm water, then make my usual lather and apply it over the Cremo. I find a great deal of difference with using this product. It's relatively inexpensive for a large tube is 7.95.
Hope this may be of some help to someone looking for something different to try. I have really enjoyed it.

I've seen it at CVS and often thought of giving it a try as a pre shave...perhaps now i will have to finally go for it....do you find your normal soap or cream lathers normally on top of the Creamo?

Yes, Boarder277 my normal shave cream lathers great on top of the Cremo and the Cremo does not lather much at all.. Hope you enjoy it!

Agree that Creamo is better as pre-shave than to use alone.
By itself, it is very hard to find the middle ground between too wet vs too dry - and it seems to disappear from one side of my face while I am shaving the other.
Kiss-My-Face makes a better lather and is borderline passable for shaving, but there are so many things that are better. My father was an engineer. He used to tell me that sharpening a straight razor is like trying to build a ladder to the moon out of a roll of aluminum foil.

Thanked: 3Ok, I just stumbled upon this thread. I just discovered Cremo recently and really enjoy it. It makes a good lather for me, as long as I get the water right, like above it's easy to get too wet! I never considered trying it as a preshave. Now excuse my ignorance but you just start as normal and put some on the brush, build your lather and apply then go to another soap/cream and apply that over the first layer of Cremo?
Sorry just seems I'm doing things twice.

The purposes of a pre-shave are to soften the beard and to increase lubrication (and also maybe to leave the skin moisturized).
This can be done with any cream/soap or with many oils.
I wash my face, leave it wet, spread a quarter-sized dab of Creamo on my face with my fingers, wait a 2-3 minutes, and then brush on a cream/soap that lathers better.
Sometimes for the final against the grain pass, I will rinse and reapply Creamo before lathering.
Not claiming this is the best or only way to do it. Trying new things is half the fun of shaving. My father was an engineer. He used to tell me that sharpening a straight razor is like trying to build a ladder to the moon out of a roll of aluminum foil.

So, with much curiosity and impulsiveness I decided on the spur of the moment, after reading this thread, to dig out my neglected tube of Cremo and use it as a pre-shave. Result: very interesting. Did give a good base for my uber lather of the day (Aveeno Threaputic, Musco and a few drops of glycerin) and I had a nicely cushioned, very close shave. Final judgement reserved till after several more uses, but it looks promising. Will also try Kiss My Face as a pre-shave to see how that works. Still prefer current pre-shave of washing my face with an olive oil soap from Turkey and not rinsing it off.

I've used creamo- it's interesting stuff. It is, as claimed and IMO the slickest product I have ever tried. I do find as a pre shave it does interfere with the soap or cream your applying over it.....
It is very 'chemically' lol- there is nothing real about it... I would say as far as getting a super close shave goes creamo is great stuff, however for me it detracts from the luxury shave experience which I enjoy so much- for this reason I did not repurchase it when I finished the tube.
If you love your cream, using as a pre shave will not necessarily make it any better IMO. Of course ymmv.......... Making Old Razors Shine N' Shave, Once Again.

Interesting Joel. I've used the stuff as the shaving cream with shaving soap to make superlather and it worked great. It did not kill the lather at all but it did add a lovely orange smell to the lather and a bit more "slick". We all have different "noses" I guess, because I think the smell is like oranges and not at all like chemical.
Nothing is as it ever was.
