Thanked: 3Ok, I just stumbled upon this thread. I just discovered Cremo recently and really enjoy it. It makes a good lather for me, as long as I get the water right, like above it's easy to get too wet! I never considered trying it as a preshave. Now excuse my ignorance but you just start as normal and put some on the brush, build your lather and apply then go to another soap/cream and apply that over the first layer of Cremo?
Sorry just seems I'm doing things twice.

The purposes of a pre-shave are to soften the beard and to increase lubrication (and also maybe to leave the skin moisturized).
This can be done with any cream/soap or with many oils.
I wash my face, leave it wet, spread a quarter-sized dab of Creamo on my face with my fingers, wait a 2-3 minutes, and then brush on a cream/soap that lathers better.
Sometimes for the final against the grain pass, I will rinse and reapply Creamo before lathering.
Not claiming this is the best or only way to do it. Trying new things is half the fun of shaving. My father was an engineer. He used to tell me that sharpening a straight razor is like trying to build a ladder to the moon out of a roll of aluminum foil.

pipeguy, I use Creamo as part of superlathering. I will prepare a dry brush after soaking it then load up my brush from the MWF with about half or three quarters of the amount I will usually load. Then i put a small amount of Creamo in my lathering bowl, say 1/8 of a measure teaspoon. After that I bring my loaded brush to the lathering bowl and work up a lather as usual. Primarily, the Creamo is used to improve the MWF's lathering and to add fragrance. Works great.
Nothing is as it ever was.

Thanked: 3I understand what a pre-shave is and again for me why use 2 different soaps/ creams to lather? Just use more of what you're going to use and let it sit on your face.
If I used a quarter size amount of Cremo I'd have enough lather to do a 5 pass shave! Maybe I'm lucky but Cremo lathers great for me, and using a dab the size of a nickle I can get a 3 pass shave no problems. I just received some oil I want to try for my pre-shave but just had never heard using Cremo as a preshave, this was the second time in a few days I heard someone use it that way.
Thanks..

Thanked: 3Now that makes more sense. At least using the term! Because that is exactly what will happen if I used the amount Ind. Raz 1 and you described. Now I need to figure out what other soap/cream I have that the 2 scents would work together. Thanks for cleaning that up.

So, with much curiosity and impulsiveness I decided on the spur of the moment, after reading this thread, to dig out my neglected tube of Cremo and use it as a pre-shave. Result: very interesting. Did give a good base for my uber lather of the day (Aveeno Threaputic, Musco and a few drops of glycerin) and I had a nicely cushioned, very close shave. Final judgement reserved till after several more uses, but it looks promising. Will also try Kiss My Face as a pre-shave to see how that works. Still prefer current pre-shave of washing my face with an olive oil soap from Turkey and not rinsing it off.

BTW, right now Cremo is offering a rebate for the price of the product (up to $9.00 per product). I picked up a tube at CVS for $7.95. Look for tubes with the hang tags on them.
Just hoping that what I save on those disposable cartridges doesn't end up getting spent on styptic pencils and band-aids!
