Not really washing but I have not heard my face complain yet
That sounds like a wonderful shaving experience but I'd be late for work everyday.....might just have to be late one day!

I have skipped my pre departure coffee once. Then I decided the shave and the coffee were necessary and work will still be there when I get there. (I do wake up a bit earlier just to shave)

I like to lounge in the morning so I shave at night, and because I can. I have a slow growing beard.

I usually shave in the evening and since I work in a machine shop I come home pretty dirt impregnated. I have to go to extremes. A wipe down with Thayers witch hazel to pull all the dirt from my pores and a good scrub down with Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap

    The Musgo is great stuff.

YES! If you don't like it, it makes an EXCELLENT urinal cake.

Man we are a neurotic bunch lol!! That said...

I thought it was universally accepted that washing before lathering up, prepared the beard for removal by softening it up?

At least that's what I thought. I know every morning before I shave, just before I soap up, I decry, " Brace Beard!! Be prepared to be conditioned!!".

Yes, I wash. I get good and wet from splashing, use Dove soap (my wife's) and scrub up. Then I rinse well, really getting my face wet and lather up, recently I've been face lathering. That's what works best for me. YMMV.

TBH, I figure if I lather-up a brush, scrub my face with it, A few hot towel treatments, Lather up again, My face has been scrubbed.
Don't see a need to do further. After all, shaving includes exfoliation as well. Finishes the job!
I do, however, shave in the morning and certainly wash my face every nite in the shower!

I thought I was the only one! I just wet my face with warm water, then lather. I think the real question is, since lather is made of soap, is it really possible to leave the oil on?

Splash some warm to hot water on and then lather. Only been doing that for 40 yrs. Seems to work OK
