    Default Pre shave cream

I like peppermint and menthol so I was looking into things with that in it. Then I came across something called pre shave ... What is its exact. Purpose? Isn't shaving cream after a hot shower or hot towel enough?

You are about to open a can of worms. I would do a forum search using "pre shave". You should get all the info you need.

For me no pre shave and just cold water and lather works. I really don't know what a pre shave does having tried a few. For others it's the works, hot shower, hot towel and pre shave and so on. Whatever works.

C.O. Bigelow Premium Shave Cream has menthol & is pretty easy to find, also a very good cream.
I don't know of anything with peppermint in it, but I am sure its out there.

"Preshave" is just about anything, oil, cream, etc. that you put on before the shave cream to assist the shave cream/soap & razor in removing the whiskers. (helping to raise the whisker, soften or provide more cushion for the blade)

Sure,, shaving cream is enough,,, but the experience is not about , "What is enough." ,, it's about the ride

Make it as pleasurable as you want.

Noxzema the original deep clean is a good place to start for a pre shave product or shave secret oil

I'v etried a few pre-shaves. Expensive stuff as well as just olive - or almond oil.
After a shower, put it on and the lather up.
Although it does help the blade glide a bit better, I never took to using it.
For me too much hassle for a little benifit.

I'd rather spend the time making a nice lather.

I use Proraso White pre-shave cream. I find I get a slightly better shave with it... but just slightly. I tend to use it out of habit more then anything else, I suppose, mostly because I shave at night, so I am not showering before I shave.

As Castel mentioned, Noxema is a good pre shave, if you use Proraso pre, compare the ingredients, Noxema is the same stuff other than a few scents but at 1/4 the price for more product, I like to use it in the summer months to cool down after the shave. Tc

To get the peppermint, wash your face with Dr Bronners liquid soap. Then, for the menthol,
use Proraso/C.O. Bigelow shave cream to make your lather. Rinse with cold water to enhance
the effects. Finally, splash on some Osage Rub aftershave for a double dose of menthol.

As mentioned above, try Noxema. It works well, and if you don't like it you're not out much money.
