I don't shower prior to shaving, but do give my face a good wash, leaving the water on until I move to hot towel then follow Glen's method.
Post shave I aways rub an alum block over my wet face, feel the sting, leave it on for a minute then wash off with cool water and apply aftershave balm. I've never had an issue with shaving rash or irritation.

    Why 2 razors?

    Hmmmm?
    One razor for each pass?
    Ambidextrous, one in each hand?
    Because he doesn't have 3?
The second one is a backup in case the first tinks on the faucet?

Some get by with a splash of water, lather application and shave. I am not one of them.

The first lather application is a cleanser. If you just showered it is probably not needed. I shower at night and shave in the morning.

Over the past year I have added Noxema as part of the prep. I rub it in with my fingers and give my face a good massage. This action also is a cleanser and helps the hair to absorb more water later.

I pre-lather, let it soak, rinse and then apply the shaving lather.

The softer the hair the more comfortable and close the shave. YMMV.

That's interesting that you use noxema.

Have you ever tried adding glycerin to your lather?

I've been a big advocate for Noxema for a long time, it's 5 times cheaper than the Proraso pre/post cream and it's the same thing. My routine is a little different ,, I just apply the noxema just before I step into the shower. By the time it's rinsed off and ,m out my beard is prepped, on really hot and humid days here in Memphis it also does a great job cooling the face post shave, but irregardless I always lather my face, and after stropping, I then apply a towel to rehydrate again and relather, and with my tough beard this is working. I did years ago but with no apparent benefit. Can't remember which soap(s) I tried it with but it is safe to say they were not high quality. I still have that bottle of glycerin somewhere. I will give it another go.

BTW, I do rinse off the Noxzema before applying the pre-lather. Some Noxema users leave it on and lather over the top as you would with a pre-shave oil like AoS.

I did that a couple times and the noxema broke down the lather too much I started taking it in the shower first

Thanks for sharing. I'll have to give that a try.
