Lather explosion achieved, face lathering successful. Shave, comfortable. Thank you all for the helpful advice.

    freyguy,

I agree with nun2sharp. Part of your problem seems related to the care with which you are shaving--not necessarily a bad thing. I occasionally get dry lather myself while shaving because like you, I go slow to avoid cutting myself. When the lather begins to dry out on my face, I simply apply a splash of water to my face and relather.

One thing I've found...If you live in a winter climate and have central heat, you may want to add 3-4 drops of glycerine to your shave soap/cream to slow down the drying of your lather. That works for me.

I'm in a brown stone in NYC so I have steam heat. I agree that part of the problem may be the care at which I take shaving at these early stages, but I think I wasn't anywhere close to the ideal water soap ratio.

Based on some suggestions from fellow SRP members, I spent some time last night experimenting with amounts of water, and although the foam was not perfect, it stayed moist for much longer.

Ahh, A brown stone. I miss the city. Are you near the Village? I used to work for The Bank of New York by Trinity Church, (if it's still there) it was two blocks from the trade center....Anyway, How goes the lathering...

    Brian I like you attitude-
What's the best cream you have ever tried?
I am trying to think of the minimum I need to travel with-
razor, small strop if can find one I can use & brush- thinking my current brush is one of the medium ones as I have seen some in pictured 50% wider. Hoping to see if a tube of cream and a hotel glass would be possible.

I am right in the heart of the village, on 8th between 5th and 6th. The area has changed so much over the years. The only thing which still remains is the electric lady studios, but even they changed the outward appearance of the studio. It's still a rad neighborhood though.

The lathering goes well. I'm starting to wonder about consistency. I believe people aim to get their lather the consistency of the canned junk we all started with, but I can't seem to get a good lather with that type of consistency.
What am I doing wrong? is it a soap issued, or a water to soap ratio issue?

Ahhh, Electric Lady Land, Jimi Hendrix....I spent a lot of time in the Village in my younger days. I used to go see the Rocky Horror Picture show, in the 8th st. Playhouse...at least, I think it was, or was it the Waverly...? I love the old record shops, "It's only Rock and Roll" comes to mind....and the bargains you can find, especially in the Jewish Area. As far as lathering goes, Have you checked out Mantic59 videos's on youtube. They are excellent. Check this out:

oh yeah. I was too young to remember the 8th street play house, but I've heard plenty of stories from my parents. I used to have a record store right below my house. Revolver records, and then renamed revolution records is sadly no more. It's been replaced by an asian massage parlor. Despite how nice it is having a massage parlor below your house, it's not the same as that awesome record store.

I've watch the mantic videos a few times, and despite my efforts, I haven't been able to achieve the whip cream like consistency he does.
