Speaking of lame, I'd never had much luck with Williams by itself, but loading a boar brush with it, then adding a half-dollop of some cream and 5 drops of glycerin makes for a great budget lather.

Glycerin is a good item to keep on hand, it really helps with fast drying soaps.

Some folks hate Williams, I've used it and by itself it sucks. But, if you add a few drops of glycerin it makes good lather.

When I first started shaving with a str8 I used Williams and had problems with it drying out on me, I took it as part of str8 razor shaving. Only after reading some post here on SRP did I realize how dumb I was.

I use other soaps now, MWF, Col. Conk, some bay rum, etc. and use Williams for cleaning strops (works great) and for lather honing on a barber hone.
