Adding Glycerin to your shaving soap. Why?
What is it supposed to do?

Hi,
It is supposed to act like a moisturizer. Some soaps can dry your skin. Glycerin will keep skin from drying out and flaking. You do not need a lot.

Like Mbrando said, it fights against drying soaps. The thing is, though, I do not understand why you would use glycerin to make up for what a product should already have.

I have noticed that soaps with glycerin dry the most.
For example Col. Conk dries very quickly when applied to my skin, and even Mitchell's which also contains glycerin (even in less percentage) dries the same very quickly.

I've used it in Uber recipes. Just 5 drops or so, and a shot of Kiss my face, in your favorite shave soap, mixed in a scuttle of course, will give you a lather explosion, and extra moisturising. A good one is MWF, Musgo Real, and 5 drops of Glycerin. Glen's recipe...
This is fun, and usefull, especially for guys that have hard water, or have trouble building lather, or just if you want loads of rich creamy lather....
Glycerin is Hygroscopic, Attracts water molecules, It will add volume to your lather....Last edited by zib; 12-26-2010 at 04:36 PM. Reason: spelling

Yup, I use it on the soaps. I'll add 5 drops of Glycerin, and some shave cream, to "Uber" it in a scuttle.......The possibilites are endless...
P.S. The soap doesn't have to be lame to experiment with it, I use it, like I said, with MWF, and that's a great soap...We have assumed control !

Thanked: 1195As other members have stated it doesn't take much. But of course too much of anything is bad, and adding too much glycerin will kill off your lather. Try to use 5 drops or less and you should be good.

I also use glycerin in my Lather, do this way a few weeks and can tell you I think of the Lather it is smoother.
Previously, I never did any drops of glycerin in my shaving soap. so it seemed like the soap dried out faster.
Although there are standard glycerin in the soap, I'd do it a few extra drops.

Two to three drops is all I need here with Florida's hard water. It works a miracle. And I learned this from you fine fellows on this site.
