Just started using it last week and I love it. Could be placebo effect but I do feel it creates a smoother shave and a barrier for your skin.

Definitely! Moreover the razor glides excellently on your skin. Less irritation (although I rarely get an irritation with a straight razor) and smoother skin.

I gave it a shot this morning. The consistency was a little different; I'll have to play around with the amounts. I added 4 drops to the top of my shaving soap along with the hot water I usually add.

Try adding the glycerin before you start mounting the lather in the bowl. I usually add 5-6 drops and then add soap and use the brush.

Yea, my daily routine is to put a little hot water on my Cella and let it sit while I strop. I then pour that water into my scuttle, add a snerdle of whatever other shave cream I want to use that day, 6 drops of glycerine and one of lanolin. Take my presoaked brush that has been shaken to get the water out and swirl it in the Cella. Take the brush loaded with Cella to the scuttle and mix it all together. It looks watery at first but after about 30 seconds it explodes into lather and a bit more lathering gets it creamy. Never been disappointed with that method.

Very interesting. What does the lanolin do?

I've been using Ogllala Bay Rum shaving soap and water, with no scuttle, just lathering on my face.

Lanolin adds more moisturizing and lubricating properties to the lather. You really don't need a scuttle, any appropriate sized bowl will allow you to do a bowl lather to mix the ingredients up. Kind of hard to do that face lathering. If face lathering and using a particular soap work to your satisfaction there is no real need to try other methods and mixes unless you like to experiment. If it ain't broke no sense fixing it.

Time is also a consideration and when I was working there is no way I would spend the time I do now on my morning shave routine. I just face lathered and shaved away and not with a straight razor either. Being retired I can indulge myself each and every day to a slower and more luxurious routine including of course a straight razor.
