RNMike, What is a dribble port you asked Julie to add?

I ended up getting a Dirty Bird Scuttle with a dribble port. A dribble port is just a small hole drilled towards the top lip inside of the scuttle. This way when you are building lather and if you need to add more water, you can tip your scuttle and hot water will dribble in. She doesn't charge any extra and she just needs to know if you will be holding the scuttle with your right or left hand. I can't recommend Julie enough.

After looking around, I ordered a Dirty Bird yesterday. Since they make them it's going to take 6 weeks or so to be delivered, but by then maybe this noob will have learned to shave a whole face, and it'll be a nice "gift to self".

Let us know how you like it! I have purchased so much shaving stuff this year - razors, soaps, after shaves, scuttles, mugs....a Dirty Bird Scuttle is next on the list. They look beautiful. And I'm a sucker for hand made stuff, even if it means waiting.

Will do, Ed. I'm in the same boat as you sound like you are -- hooked....in a good way.

    Default SAD

This is my scuttle collection. The one on the left is not a scuttle, but a self watering flower pot from WM ($7.00). I like the double bowl design because I can hold the top bowl in my hand and then once the lather is built up I just place the top bowl into the already hot-water filled bottom bowl. The top bowl has a rough finish and is a little bit porous which keeps the lather moist and nice and hot. Also, I really don't worry about dropping it or nicking it on the faucet. My other two scuttles make a really nice lather and keep the lather warm as well, Unfortunately, I think I am starting a new disorder (SAD) - scuttle Acquisition Disorder. So, be careful. Enjoy your nice hot 3-7 hot pass shaves they're great.

I started out building the lather on my face, I only used sticks the first months of wet shaving. Living in Norway, I did not risk having a scuttle shipped from the states and found a lokal pottery that agreed to give scuttles a try.

    This is the result.

Because it was her first attempt in making a scuttle, she made more than one of each part. She did not care to make this a permanent part of her production, so I got two mugs and three bowls for the initial price of one scuttle.

I have now progressed into shaving creams, especially menthol creams, and the feeling of warm lather is just perfect. I still face lather sometimes, but I also use the sticks with the scuttle. The bowls are made quite rough on the inside, and rubbing a moist stick against it leaves enough soap for three to four passes (or in my case, the last of the lather is applied after the last pass and sits while I clean the brush and bowl).
