Thanked: 6question about soap pucks
I recently got into sr shaving. I started out with Proraso, but recently purchased some mitchells wool fat. I realize the pucks go in the bottom of a mug. Do i make the lather on top of the puck, or do I get a little on the brush, then use another bowl to make the lather?

I make my lather in the cup and then continue to lather up a bit more on my face. You can also use another bowl after loading the brush. however you like is good.

Thanked: 1263You can do either. Or you can load the brush and face lather as well.

I make my lather on the puck. The one thing I noticed with Mitchell's Wool fat, is that it lathers better using warm water instead of hot water. This is just my opinion.

Thanked: 275Some people find MWF difficult to lather. If you do, there's a video (and text) by Mantic59 that gives some hints.
I found that, if I put a bit of warm water on the puck, and let it sit for a few minutes, I could pick up _much_ more soap on my brush. Face-lathering was much easier that way.

I always use warm or even cold water with MWF as well as face lathering it and it seems to work out pretty well. On a side note I really like using MWF and I think once you get the hang of it you are going to like it.

Gentlemen:
This is the way I work with any soap, including Mitchell's Wool Fat. On the way to the shower, I top the soap in the mug with warm water and place it half-way up in a sink full of warm water to keep it warm. Afterward, I empty the water from the mug and load the moist brush with the soap and face lather. With some soaps, including Mitchell's Wool Fat, I use more water. Mitchell's is a fine soap, once you learn how to work with it. By all means, use warm water rather than hot. In my experience, warm water works much better than hot for making lather.

Thanked: 8For my soap pucks that I store in their mugs, I wet the brush in that mug and lather up there. For soaps in bowls and creams I load the brush and lather on my face or in another vessel.
