After my initial prep of a good face wash with a good quality soap, followed by a hot water rinse, I have found a light coating of Burt's Bees shaving cream, then I lather over the top with my normal choice of shaving soap or cream, there's loads of slip in that Burt's Bees.

I have used the AOS sandalwoods for years..good products. Now IMHO the pre shave oil is not helping me with the straight razor shaves...it feels like it sticks and cause at least to me trouble to get the blade to glide. It worked pretty well when I used cartridges but even then it would clog the blade to know end. I am trying to wean myself of it. Old habits are to break.

I have a bottle of the Sandalwood that I got with the "kit." I don't mind it at all, but I generally use it when I feel like pampering myself.
For what it's worth lol, if you are like me and buy the kit containing the pre, post, and cream - buy an extra cream. The pre and post will last twice as long as the cream .David

Thanked: 8I used an AOS sample pre-shave and found it too, well...just oily for me. If I use pre-shave product now it's Castle Forbes water soluble preshave. No scent but does have the desired effect of lubrication. Still...if I don't use a pre-shave, I don't seem to miss it.

Thanked: 4I use the unscented kind. And to stop me from loosing my grip, I get a little bit of toilet paper and use it when I stretch and it works fine.
